Question
Has any country in history ever been successful in spreading democracy to another country?
Answer
Yes, the US democratized Japan after WW. Prior to the war, Japan was an imperial dicatorship with an emperor, Hirohito, whose word was law and ruled with an iron hand. The people of Japan believed he was god on earth with a divine right to rule. Japan now has a parliamentary democracy with a prime minister. Germany was a democracy prior to the war but became a dictatorship under Hitler. After the war, it was split in two, East and West Germany. West Germany returned to a democratic form of government guided by the western Allies but East Germany, which was controlled by communist Russia then the USSR, became communist and was, eventually, formally and physically separated from West Germany by the Berlin Wall, a concrete wall topped with barbed wire which divided the two Germanys, literally cutting the City of Berlin and the country of Germany in half. The Berlin Wall was torn down in the s through Glasnost and Perestroika, so you could say Russia was also democratized. Italy also suffered hardship under Il Duce, Benito Mussolini, a dictator who was in control of Italy before WW and was removed from power by the Allies England, Canada, France, US, Australia, New Zealand.
